Tom Heindrichs and Jonas Schmitz kicked off their preparations for the European season in Italy this weekend, taking part in the opening round of the national gravel championship, the Rally Citta di Foligno. Competing in their Opel Corsa Rally4 for the second time on gravel, they steadily improved to finish in 21st place overall and to be fastest in the last loop. They secured the silver medal in the Rally4 class, just under twenty seconds behind the winning Lancia Ypsilon HF

The story could hardly have been more symbolic. Just one day after his brother Thierry Neuville claimed victory in Saudi Arabia, Tom Heindrichs came close to writing his own name into the history books at the Spa Rally. Victory narrowly slipped away, but the 21-year-old from St. Vith left an unforgettable impression and confirmed that his future in rallying is only just beginning.
