Tom Heindrichs and co-driver Jonas Schmitz claimed their second victory of the season at the ADAC Saarland-Pfalz Rallye, bringing even more excitement to the title fight in the ADAC Opel Electric Rally Cup “powered by GSe”.
With this win, the Belgian duo has closed the gap to championship leader Alex “Sito” Español to just eight points. The Spaniard struggled to find his rhythm on the tricky asphalt stages around St. Wendel and finished fourth, his weakest result of the year so far.
Meanwhile, Germany’s Kilian Nierenz and the Netherlands’ Fabian Kamermans once again impressed, completing the podium in second and third place respectively.
A Demanding Rally — and a Hard-Fought Victory
The Saarland-Pfalz Rallye proved to be one of the toughest events of the season so far. With hidden cuts, loose gravel sections, and frequent punctures, very few crews made it through without issues.
Right from the start, Tom and Jonas pushed hard and took the lead, but unlike their dominant win in the Rallye Vosges Grand-Est, this time they had to fight for every second.
“We managed to build a small gap yesterday, which really helped us today,” Tom explained. “Our main focus was on keeping ahead of the Spanish crew while avoiding punctures or any damage to the car. It all worked out perfectly. We’re really happy with the victory and with closing the gap in the championship. Of course, it would’ve helped if a few more cars had finished between us and Sito, but overall, we’re on the right track.”
